Who We Are!

The Border Riders Motorcycle Club “BRMC” is a not-for-profit 501(c)(7) organization for gay men who like to ride motorcycles and who like to go camping on their motorcycles. Our membership spans the Pacific Northwest with the greatest participation in the Portland, Seattle and Vancouver B.C. areas. We are one of the largest and longest-running gay motorcycle clubs in North America. We welcome like-minded guests to our Meet & Greets, day rides, and to our monthly meetings and summer campouts with a sponsoring BRMC member.

September 2025 Campout Recap

It was a dark and stormy night on this last official campout/run for the 2025 riding season for the Border Riders.  That pretty much sums it up for Saturday night at Schafer State Park in Washington, as around midnight the sky opened up and dumped big time until morning.  But more on that later.

Most of the group of 16 riders (and me, now in a camping van) were able to make it to the group campground on Friday under reasonably good weather, although for some of us the traffic was horrendous on Friday (nothing new here) which made for late and very dark arrivals.  The group site at the park is really quite nice.  Large and open, yet neatly tucked away from other campers that afforded some privacy from the public at large.  With a very big and well-built shelter that included tables, lighting, and electrical, it made for a fine meeting hall for the group with our portable propane fire pit to huddle around.

Good weather (i.e. not raining, not super cold) continued into Saturday morning as everyone had survived the night and now began to awaken from the night’s slumber to partake upon morning danish and coffee before mounting upon their bikes and headed into town for a sit-down breakfast.  From there, many continued the day on a group ride to parts unknown, returning to camp later in the afternoon.  Regrouping, it was again off for dinner in the small town of Elma, returning only after dark.

After everyone’s return to camp, Saturday evening was primarily the club meeting.  Having a quorum, actual business was discussed and issues of the day were bounced around.  It was a long meeting.  Eventually, it was finally over and socializing commenced for many, while others called it a night and crawled into their tents.

And then, the rain came… in buckets.  Around midnight the sky opened up in full force, apparently having held back as long as it could for us to enjoy the day.  Though everyone is well prepared for rain in terms of gear and preparation, for some the deluge was more than what could be managed and some guys were dealing with water pooling in their tents, soaking sleeping bags, and generally being kept awake due to the pounding water on their tents.

Yet, the rain gods had their fun and by the light of morning it was clear sky and warmish temperatures.  Everyone was up early and after a bit of morning socializing and more danish/coffee, camps were packed up and stuffed back on the motorcycles for the ride home.  For Seattle people, it was a relatively short ride.  For others, they were looking toward to a few hours in front of their travels.  Still, in all it was a great end of the year for camping in the great Pacific Northwest.

Portland

No Portland day ride this month.

October Meeting

Register Today

The October Meeting will be held at Dennis H’s cabin outside of Yakima – about 25 minutes west of Yakima proper about a mile before the pavement ends. Unlike most of our winter meetings, this is a weekend event, join us for all or only part of the weekend.

Friday – show up whenever you want. Dinner will be on an open schedule and will be available throughout the evening. Hopefully, a fire out by the creek in the evening.

Saturday morning – breakfast service

Saturday during the day – day rides in the area for those that rode, winery tours, exploring the dirt roads in the Ahtanum Forest, or just hanging out at the cabin. Lunch will be available for those who stay.

Saturday Dinner – an Octoberfest theme. Followed by the club meeting. And once again hope that fire conditions allow for socializing around the fire in the evening.

Sunday morning – breakfast.

Accommodations: attendance will determine how many tents are needed – between the house and garage there is lot of floor space. Plan to bring an air bed and possibly a tent should you choose to sleep outside. In addition, there will be a few tents set up in advance so you may not need to set up in the dark.

From the Handlebars of the President

Another year of our annual camping trips is over, and we get into the wet winter season. We still have important things to do – specifically as we look to January and our Annual General Meeting. The club needs officers to keep the club running. Consider if you are able to fill one of the positions as we will be having nominations for both membership and board positions in the next few months.
