July 2010Presidents Report/NewsletterOffering…..This is the first newsletter for this year. Needless to say, it’s been a long time coming and a few months overdue. Not that I really have a good reason for being so tarty in keeping these up to date, there’s been a lot going on with the club and handling the business at hand seems to be a priority. A new year…..This year, we welcomed the largest new class of new Border Riders members I believe the club has ever seen. Speaking with past members, those that have been around a lot longer than I have, no one can remembers such a large group of fine men joining out ranks in one year. Even with the normal attrition we still grew our ranks. This bodes well for the Club as the interest in our fraternal organization continues to prosper. Our actual ranks of “regular guests” dwindle as they become new members. This is not at all a bad thing. The idea of guests becoming members is what keeps us as the largest gay motorcycle club in North America. We always welcome new guests and have seen quite a few join us this year. Some new and some of our regulars are always riding with us during our summer run season. Victoria Day roundup…..This year, we had a great turnout for our annual start of the riding season. We had over 75 members and guest attend. We had a couple of very cold evenings in the Wenatchee National Forest that drove some to retreat to buying new sleeping bags on Saturday, sharing a tent with a buddy and spending an evening around the camp fire. A great time was had by most and we look forward to next year’s event. This year we honored two of our fallen brothers, Ian Quinn and Wight Reade. As President, this is the hardest part of my duties. As we place their plaques on the tree of remembrance, doing so reminds us all of our finite time on this planet and how we must all account for our own actions. We are all proud to have called these men our brothers. It’s been a long road…..With the summer half way gone, we have by most accounts had a great year. Two more runs are scheduled this year along with the ever allusive, but always fun, circle tour. The circle tour will kick off at the end of the August run. Those participating will be leaving from the Bend, Oregon run and head south to California, making their way through Yosemite National Park, to San Francisco and then back to the Northwest. Some will be heading to joining the Satyrs MC club for their yearly campout. Looking forward…..Two more runs, Bend, OR in August and then Pearrygin Lake State Park, WA in September. It hardly seems real that this year is half over. There is always a possibility of some impromptu run in October, but most years, it’s been cold and wet during the planned October run so we have not had one for two years. Watch the webs site and see if something pops up. Otherwise, we will begin our winter meetings in October. These are held at private members’ homes and will be communicated to all members. Guests may attend if they are invited by a member. Our Christmas party is always a blast. We exchange white elephant gifts. To this end…..I have enjoyed being President of this great organization. We have a great group of men we call The Border Riders. With the support of EACH member we will continue to prosper and grow. Thanks to each of you. To this end, we are The Border Riders Motor Cycle Club. Dusty Evers
