January 2010 BRMC NEWLETTER

Presidents Report

December Meeting
The December meeting was held in Burlington, WA and hosted by Chris and Richard.  A great big thanks for all their efforts and the great food.  We had good attendance and everyone had a blast with the gift exchange.  Some items, like the pink Snuggie and Dan’s extra crutch, were not stolen.  Other items like the hats and motorcycle books were repeatedly snatched away. A few items might even have been “re-gifts” of last year and we may see a few of this year’s appear next time.  Put this event on your calendar for 2010.
January Annual Meeting
The next meeting is at the Cuff Complex in Seattle on January 16th.  The meeting starts at 5PM and should conclude around 7.  If you are available to help set up please arrive at 4:30. Officers and new members will be voted upon and the results announced.  New members are highly encouraged to attend after the voting.  The group will be going to Piecora’s Pizza for dinner at about 8 PM.  Annual dues may be paid at the meeting or via PayPal on the website.

Anniversary Party – Feb 20, 2010
If you have not already reserved your room at the Washington Athletic Club remember the special deal that Kerry arranged is being offered only on an as-available basis. As of January 4th there were still rooms, but we suggest you book as soon as possible. The toll-free number is 800-275-3775 (valid in the U.S. and Canada). When calling, mention that you are reserving rooms from the Border Riders group and provide the dates.  The special price is $109 per night, which is less than half of their normal pricing. They will honor that pricing for Friday, Saturday and Sunday night stays. Taxes, parking and incidentals are additional.

Winterize
As much as we all love riding the cold and precipitation certainly limit cycling through the winter.  A quick reminder is to be sure your battery is fully charged.  Even disconnected it will discharge over the winter.  If left to discharge fully it can freeze and crack.  Consider where your bike is parked as we move through these bitter cold spells.  For those with liquid cooled engines it might be wise to check the anti-freeze in your coolant.

Ready for Spring
Now is the time to take a few minutes and look over your bike and consider your spring maintenance.  Fresh oil and filter only take a few minutes and now is the time to plan.  Let’s get that done before the last minute.  Is it time for tires?  What other accessories and “bling” do you need for the upcoming riding season?  Don’t forget about camping equipment and watch for the spring sales.  The days are already getting longer.
